Floating in the Light - Oil on Canvas - 4 x 5

Initially, I hesitated to paint a red and white lobster trap buoy, thinking it might feel too "medical." But as I reflected on it, I realized it was the perfect way to honor the medical community. I love painting these buoys because I can depict them in turbulent waters or calm seas, and either way, they have come to symbolize resilience to me. With many friends and family members who are nurses and doctors, I understand how it can sometimes feel like they’re out on the open ocean, facing wave after wave—yet they still hold strong. I hope this piece serves as an encouragement to anyone in a difficult situation, reminding them to keep holding on. The waters will calm, and perhaps even sparkle in the light. A season of rest will come.
