Autumn Summit - Oil on Canvas - 8 x 10
There is nothing quite like hiking in Maine in the fall. The air is crisp, and as the sun sinks lower in the sky the colors come alive. Particularly striking are the wild blueberry bushes, transforming into a blazing red hue. Together with the evergreens, they always seem to be a harbinger for the upcoming Christmas holiday. This scene was inspired by a spontaneous trip up Mount Battie in Camden, Maine. Upon reaching the summit, I was discouraged to see quite a crowd of people, which prompted me to venture down the trail in search of solitude. Not too far away I came across this quiet scene and it beckoned me to stay and alone witness the glow of the sun’s descent.
