Frog and Fuchsia - Oil on Cradled Panel - 8 x 10
Every summer I am amazed by the amount of flowers I see growing in yards around my community in Midcoast Maine. My theory is that after a long winter, Mainers find a special sort of joy from seeing things that bloom after months of snow so many will plan wave after wave of annuals to pop up as soon as the ground begins to thaw.
When I lived in Florida, one of my favorite things to plant every summer was Celosia. They would grow close to two feet tall and reminded me of a paintbrush jungle. When I moved to Maine, I thought I would never see them again but then my first summer here hundreds of them were planted along the steps of the Capitol building! They don’t grow nearly as tall here, but sometimes I like sitting on the ground next to them so that I can observe how they glow in the sun—that’s when I spotted my little frog friend!
